Concept

The Long Journey is a prototype developed by me, Nando Berg and Elizabeth Seemann for the module “Spielekonzeption” – Game Conception. During this module we made small 2 weeks long Game Jams with themes set by our professor. The theme for this game was “And if they are not dead – your game starts where other games end”. The basic concept for this game was a simple 2D Action Platformer, where you follow a lone hero on his way home.

Logline

Accompany an old veteran on the long journey to retirement. After various heavy battles you want to settle down in your hometown, BUT your past lingers over your head.

Description

It is done, after years of conflict the Demon Lord Sardoz was slain by our glorious hero Albaric. Now it is your turn to help him on his long journey to his homestead. However, the good people of the kingdom still need your help and hinder your travels. Will you reach your destination, or will you meet a gruesome but heroic death? Features

  • Reverse Adventure: Start the game where a normal action RPG would end. Accompany your hero on his 2D Side-scrolling adventure back home.
  • Resource Managment: Sell your collected items to keep travelling.
  • Age: Lose your abilities and see your physical stats worsen as you grow older and wiser.

Contribution

I coded a basic aging mechanic and a Quest Board, where the player would be paid but also age by a set amount.

The Beginning
Age by completing Quests.
The End
Do not go to far, or you will not be able to get home.
The Way is long
The Way is Long, will you make it?

Conclusion

This project was the first time I ever worked with Unity and C#. I made Games in theory before, but never coded for one. Therefore this was a special occasion and is the project that made me realise I wanted to focus my efforts on Game Development and Design. You could call this project my "Origin Story".
